Emotional Waves, Honest Conversations, and the Path from Turbulence to Compassion

Many people are already feeling it. The news cycle is intense. Global conflicts and political polarization dominate the headlines. And on a personal level, emotions seem closer to the surface than usual.
From the perspective of Human Design, we might say that the collective Solar Plexus Center is lit up right now. This is the center associated with emotional awareness, emotional waves, and emotional intelligence.
When the Solar Plexus is activated in the Human Design mandala, humanity is invited to learn something deeper about how we experience and express emotion.
And this weekend’s energies are teaching exactly that lesson.
From Turbulence to Compassion
The Sun is currently illuminating Gate 36-Turbulence, while the Earth grounds us through Gate 6-Impact. Both of these gates live in the Solar Plexus Center, which emphasizes the emotional field.
In the Gene Keys, Gene Key 36 carries a powerful evolutionary spectrum:
Turbulence → Humanity → Compassion
If one word describes the collective mood right now, it might be turbulence.
We see it in world conflicts, political tension, and social upheaval. Many people are also experiencing emotional turbulence in their personal lives.
Yet the Gene Keys remind us that turbulence is not simply chaos. It is the beginning of transformation.
Gate 36 is called the Gate of Experience in Quantum Human Design because it teaches that humanity evolves through experience—especially emotional experience. It is through the challenges, the crises, and sometimes even heartbreak that we begin to understand each other more deeply.
That deeper understanding gives birth to the gift of Humanity, and when that gift matures fully, it becomes Compassion.
Compassion is the ability to hold space for others’ suffering without closing the heart.
And perhaps that is exactly what humanity is learning right now.
From Conflict to Peace
Opposite the Sun sits the Earth in Gate 6, which, in the Gene Keys, moves through another important spectrum:
Conflict → Diplomacy → Peace
Gate 6 deals with emotional boundaries and emotional friction. It asks a simple but profound question:
How do we connect emotionally?
Do we meet each other through reaction?
Or through conscious response?
The shadow expression of this energy is conflict. This is where emotional tensions escalate, and differences collide. But conflict is not necessarily the problem. When approached with awareness, conflict can evolve into Diplomacy, the ability to hold space for differences while still respecting one another’s emotional reality.
And when diplomacy matures fully, the highest expression of this energy becomes Peace.
And, get this: Peace is not the absence of conflict. Peace is what happens when we learn how to move through conflict without destroying one another in the process.
Mercury Retrograde Meets Mars
This weekend brings another important layer to the story.
On Sunday, Mercury retrograde meets Mars in Pisces, and this conjunction takes place in Gate 37, sometimes called the Gate of Peace or the Gate of Community.
Mercury governs communication and conversation, and Mars represents action, assertion, and sometimes confrontation.
When these two planets come together, conversations can carry a lot of emotional energy. People may feel strongly about what they are saying, and discussions can quickly become passionate.
With Mercury retrograde involved, old conversations may resurface. Issues we thought were resolved may return for another look. Unspoken frustrations may bubble up, asking to be acknowledged.
But because this conjunction occurs in Pisces, the tone is different from what it would be in a fire or air sign. Pisces brings emotion, empathy, and intuition into the conversation.
People may not just be speaking from logic—they may be speaking from what they feel.
Conversations That Shape the Future
There is one more important factor in this weekend’s astrology.
When Mercury and Mars meet, they are also sitting directly on the North Node, the point in astrology that represents humanity’s evolutionary direction.
Whenever a planet activates the North Node, events can carry a sense of significance or destiny. Words spoken now may matter more than we realize. Conversations may arise that shift the trajectory of relationships, family dynamics, or collective discussions.
The North Node often brings turning-point moments—moments when something said or done changes what comes next. And because this is happening in Pisces, the deeper invitation is to bring empathy, compassion, and emotional awareness into our communication.
The cosmos seems to be whispering something simple but powerful:
Choose your response carefully… because it matters.
Riding the Emotional Wave
When we step back and look at the bigger picture, it almost feels as though the cosmos is offering humanity an emotional curriculum right now.
The Sun in Gate 36 invites us to transform turbulence into compassion.
The Earth in Gate 6 asks us to transform conflict into diplomacy and peace.
And Mercury retrograde meeting Mars reminds us that honest conversations can reshape our relationships and communities.
The deeper lesson running through all of this is the difference between reaction and response.
Reaction is immediate. Response requires awareness. Response asks us to pause, feel the emotional wave move through, and then decide how we want to act. And perhaps that is one of the most important evolutionary skills humanity is learning right now.
If the emotional field feels intense this weekend, remember: You don’t have to react to every wave that passes through.
You can pause.
You can breathe.
You can let the emotional wave move through your body, then choose how you want to respond.
Because when enough of us do that…
Turbulence becomes humanity.
Conflict becomes diplomacy.
And diplomacy eventually becomes peace.
Wishing you all a peace-filled weekend,
Janet Hickox
